Evaluation “Reflection” What impact do you expect to see as a result of using this technology in the classroom?
Without a doubt, students will be more interested in learning and applying concepts they’ve learned by using new technology. I expect to see higher test scores, more participation, better attendance, and more attention focused on learning activities in the classroom. I have some work that will require students to complete using traditional methods (paper and pencil) but the technology and apps we’ve learned about will be tremendous anchor activities or rewards for students that are completing work in class. All students will be able to use iPads as long as they are honoring the rules discussed for appropriate use but iPads will be more available to students that are completing work and setting positive examples in the classroom.
How do you plan to continue to use your iPad in your personal life? Professional life?
I’ve learned about some new apps from the presentations today and will continue to explore what they offer to students in middle school. I will continue to work with apps so I can assist students on completing work with the new apps and learn how to complete more complex operations like adding text, video, clip art to presentations. Once students are introduced to these activities, they will be much more likely to complete their work so they can work on adding technology to their learning. I will definitely share my findings and collaborate with other teachers on activities I’ve done, learned, or am trying to implement so that I can get others working on the same things and have more ideas to bring us to the common goal with our classrooms. Using my iPad for fun will make it easier to operate the iPad and find ways to perform tasks in a less stressful environment while entertaining myself at the same time. I also plan on sharing my new apps and demonstrate to peers how to use them so that I will become more familiar with using them.
What have you learned from others’ sharing that you would like to try or explore more of?
I wrote down a few other apps that were presented so that I can have that many more activities to try to work into my classroom. I noticed Inspiration and Bookpress which will allow students to form outlines for writing and create books by importing pictures along with their text. Live Binders will be an effective tool for our principal to inform us of trending ideas in our grade level as it relates to project based learning. We will be able to share and edit/add information and keep a running record of notes and activities we’re implementing in class. Idioms seems like a fun way to teach language to our student population as they can be a lot more fun to learn about using technology vs. listening to a lecture. English Idioms Illustrated is another one that brings pictures to the activities and is something I will look into further to supplement my language arts curriculum.
